MINORS & PARENTS HAVE DIFFERENT INTERESTS

Teens have expressed concern about privacy in the consent process when parents are involved. This is especially true for teens who are LGBTQIA+.

Some parents argue that they need to know if their teen is in a study because of the potential for harm, such as a bad reaction to a medication. Other parents support their teen joining a study on their own because they feel that research is important. They also feel that their teen understands themselves enough to decide without parental involvement.

On the next two pages there are some short videos that present these different perspectives.
