WHY ARE PUBLIC DELIBERATIONS HELD?

Why do a public deliberation?

Public deliberations take a lot of time but are very helpful. They are useful when we need to make decisions on policies that may be controversial. This is because public deliberations focus on shared values. Once we have listed our values and listened to everyone’s opinion, we can create new ideas to fix the issue.

Do people need to agree?

No. People do not need to agree on everything for a public deliberation to work. People only need to be able to listen to and respect different opinions and ideas. They will also be asked to give support for your views. Community members can reach a common ground by sharing their thoughts and identifying shared community values.

What is the end-product of public deliberation?

The goal is to create a set of recommendations for the issues that are based on the viewpoints and shared values of the community.
